This 10” x 20” acrylic painting commemorates the West Point Lighthouse Exhibition 150th Anniversary this June 2025.
It was constructed in 1875 at the southwest tip of Prince Edward Island. It is called the first of the second generation of lighthouses, as a new square-tapered tower, which were cheaper and quicker to construct. It was originally painted in horizontal bands of red and white. The red paint faded quite often making the lighthouse appear all white.
Following many complaints, the lighthouse was painted black and white and has remained that way since 1915. The lighthouse was manned until 1963.
The Westpoint Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse on PEI, standing 20.6 meters above the sandy shores of West Point, PEI. Visitors are welcome to climb the stairs to witness spectacular views and to stay over in the West Point Lighthouse and Inn.
(Painting comes with a natual wood colour floating frame)
